On a Saturday between 12 and 14, we went on a tour of the Dubrovnik area in an electric tuk tuk. Our driver and tour guide was named Vito. The tuk tuk seated four the other couple was from Australia and we had some nice chats along the drive between the five of us. We meet up at Pile Gate, an entrance to Old Town Dubrovnik.
The first stop was the bridge to the North which marks the outer edge of Dubrovnik. People do live beyond the bridge, but they will have other names for their resident area.
After the bridge the tour when back South to be able to drive op the mountain that shelters Dubrovnik from the continent. The Mountain is named Sdr. On the way Vito told us about the ruins we passed and about experiences he had had with passergeres from different countries. Once nationality does influence the parts of history that you are taught at school. Since the vikings did not frequent the Dubrovnik area our school learning had not included the area.
H has an interest in history, specially the Ottoman Empire has been a frequent reading topic. Z always does research before a vacation into the history of the area. This came in handy when trying to keep up with the tour.
We had a stop before the top of the mountain where we had a beautiful view of Old Town and Lokrum island. Vito told us about the quarantine history of the town and we took some great pictures.
At the top of the mountain we had half an hour to ourselves. The weather on this particular day was very, very hot. We spend most of the break in a shady spot trying to coop with the heat. We quickly ran out of water (2*0.5 liter), but were able to refill our bottles at the top of the mountain.
We enjoy the tour immensely. The heat was bearable while we were on the road, but our stops were kept short because of it. Vito had a tendency to call the history part of the tour 'the boring part', but we maybe atypical on regards to that. We enjoyed the stories and conversations immensely.
